Traveling to Viterbo (the town is located 80 km north of Rome).

Our bus service

Although the distance from Viterbo and Rome and its airports is not so considerable, the system of connections (by train or other public transport) doesn't allow fast and frequent solutions to reach Viterbo. For this reason the organization will make available a private bus service from both Rome Airports (the same buses will go to Fiumicino and Ciampino) to Viterbo.

Our private bus service will be available only for those who register for this service. Check home page for details.

Meeting points in the Airports:

  • Fiumicino Airport: outside the exit of terminal B, there is an orange big sign “meeting point” (to get an idea see the picture).
  • Ciampino Airport: at the automatic door before the exit of the airport (to get an idea see the picture).

You will find one of our staff members holding a big green “EAAE seminar” poster.

Other travel solutions

By train

Trains to Viterbo from the Airports:

  • From Fiumicino Airport the most reliable way to reach Viterbo is by train. First follow the blue strip on the airport floor to get to the railway station where you can buy the tickets,  then get the trains to “Roma Trastevere” (leaving every 15 minutes) station, get off at Roma Trastevere and wait for the connection which will take you to Viterbo, there is approximately one train every hour.  The price of the ticket is 5,50 € to Rome and 4,50 € to Viterbo.
  • From Ciampino Airport there are three different shuttle bus companies that travel to Roma Termini railway station. One of these is “Terravision” and it is connected to airplane companies such as Rynair. The bus is usually publicised on the flight. The tickets for the other two companies are available at the airport in the box office at the Arrival Hall. Then take the shuttles at the bus stops number one, two or three (one for each company), located about 100 metres out of the exit. For further information and for the shuttle timetable use the following links: www.sitbusshuttle.it ; www.schiaffini.it.
Once you get to Roma Termini you keep following the directions (see below for further information).

Trains to Viterbo from Roma Termini Station

Probably the most reliable way to reach Viterbo is by train, even though the regional trains are not the fastest of all. Viterbo has two railway stations: Porta Fiorentina or Porta Romana. You can reach both of them by local trains leaving from Roma Ostiense, Roma Trastevere, Roma Valle Aurelia by the FM3 line. The trip takes 1 hour and 50 minutes. There are trains every hour departing from Roma Ostiense, from h 6:52 until the last one at h 20:52. The direct, slightly faster trains (around 1 hour 30 min.) are at 17:16 pm, 17:46 pm, 18:16 pm.

As an alternative, you can travel from Roma Termini (the City's central station) to Orte (45 minutes), and then switch to local train or bus to reach Viterbo (another 50 minutes). The last local bus from Orte to Viterbo is at h 19:05, and the the last train is at h 21:22.

By car

By highway (northbound or southbound): A1 Roma - Firenze, exit Orte and follow the directions to Viterbo nord.

As an alternative, drive from Rome on the SS 2 bis (via Cassia bis). The distance is approximately 100 kms and the trip takes around 2 hours across the pleasant Latian countryside and the Cimini mountains.
